A weekend escape

I love long weekends...a time to escape from the maddness of everyday living and just spend time being, catching up with friends and just spending time remembering what life is all about. I had the opportunity to spend this last weekend in Sydney with some very special friends. It's been a while (read - forever) since I've been shopping in Sydney...I felt like a real country girl gone to the 'big smoke' and such a tourist! Such fun! Was lovely getting my new baby out and playing with some of the settings...did remind me though that I need to read my instruction book so I can use it to the best of its abilities!

The harbour and bridge...circular quay was so busy with all the ferries and passanger liners

A weekend in Sydney would not be complete without a photo of the Opera House. Built in the 1960's, it still amazes me how they built these things (including the bridge) without the aid of computer driven technology...and we're supposed to be the smart generation...

Luna park and the bridge...you know I've never yet been to Luna park

My pretty green hotel room...and the super comfortable couch...it was really deep, perfect for curling up with a good book...
The view from my balcony...nice...

Queen Victoria Building..I loved the beautiful old architecture and of course their Christmas decorations. AND their basement kitchen discount store...would love to come back and spend some serious money in THAT place!!!
The Swarovski crystal Christmas tree spanned three levels...very beautiful...had young and old alike enchanted

Back out into reality...peak hour on Friday afternoon...not a time you want to be driving in the city...
We stumbled upon a Christmas parade...there were lots of themed participants...including the smiling waving tomato from Veggie tales...Bob the tomato!
I LOVE these chess boards in parks....now if only I could play chess...

Raising money for charity....they were doing a great job too...all over the city...

Martin Place's Christmas tree...beautiful...

A street decorated with bird cages...so original and funky!
Love this...everywhere in the city they have painted signs on the road reminding pedestrians to watch for traffic, and reminding them from which direction the traffic is coming...
One of the 10 or 12 wedding parties we saw on Saturday afternoon in the Rocks...it must be THE PLACE to get your photos taken...understandably....I love the old buildings...

There was a story about these backyards...they were partly reclaimed for some reason down near the wharfs...but I just though the street looked pretty...
I'm not sure which part is supposed to be the deterrent, but it is effective nonetheless....

Some expensive real estate down on the wharf...
My lovely friends perusing the wharf region...

The obligatory seagull snap...

The bridge by any other view, is still a bridge...
I just love this shot...

Grapes growing in the middle of Sydney...looked beautiful climbing over buildings built before the turn of last century

Our Saturday evening dinner venue - Peter Doyles on the Quay...you know what they say...position, position, position!
Some Sydney streetscapes at twilight...which was much later with daylight savings!

A cute button store we wandered past....

We saw a garden planted in disposable coffee cups....a university project to help clean up the world...very cute...
George Street with its Christmas finery...
So there you go, you've shared a little snapshot from my weekend away. Hope you had a lovely weekend too.

  1. so glad you had a great long weekend....it's amazing how much of a city's life you see just wandering for a couple of days...and so great to be able to capture it all on your camera.
